COYN Youth Fellows are nominated young adults, ages 18-24, that represent their local COYN member site. The fellowship is a two-month program where the Fellows focus on hearing from youth in their respective areas on what they want to see in their communities. The Fellows utilize the info they gather to make recommendations to best incorporate youth voice within the COYN work at large!

I was born and raised in Chula Vista, currently working with Youth Will as my host site. My leadership experience emerged within athletics and has developed into social justice efforts through community leadership, youth empowerment and advocacy in San Diego.

Hi, my name is Aaliyah, and while I’m originally from the Florida panhandle, I’ve settled in the Coachella Valley where I’m so honored and excited to be partnered with Goodwill Southern California. My favorite part of leadership has been building team cohesion with emphasis on trust and communication as I started my professional career working nights in a trauma hospital lab.

My name is Karimey Perez, and I am from the Boyle Heights Technology Youth Source Center. Within the center, the College Corner has opened doors towards secondary education for low-income youth within Boyle Heights; it is a continuous passion of mine to promote academic resilience within the community.

I’m Ralph Valadez from the San Fernando Valley, and my current worksite is at F&F Signs in San Fernando. Throughout my academic career, I’ve built leadership experience as a summer camp leader and by setting a strong example for my siblings and community.

My name is Madeline Villagrana, I am a first-generation UCLA alumna with a bachelors degree in Sociology and a minor in Education and Social Transformation from the San Fernando Valley. I have the privilege to work with Kids in the Spotlight as a COYN fellow. I lead as the Art Director for a stop-motion animation film that honored former judge Songhai Armstead’s journey through the foster care system. I continue to work on social-justice forward projects as a production designer and animator.
After I graduated college, I mentored 110, 18-21 year old foster youth, spanning from L.A. County to Out-of-State regions, guiding and supporting them to be self-sufficient and to follow their aspirations.
